A way from the mingling crowds, the hustle and bustle of the crowded city centers and the tacky beaches, there is a scenic and serene side to Goa. Nestled deep amongst the remote and largely sleepy villages is the enchanting Mayem lake located in Bicholim Taluka, only a few kilometers from the township, approximately an hours ride from the capital city.

Set at a modest entry fee of Rs. 10/- per head, you are introduced to the pristine lake with dark green waters surrounded by lush greenery on all sides of its banks. A sense of calm spreads through your inner soul as the lake appeases and invites you to ride its waters, literally.

Although the cafeteria and Mirror Maze are yet to be opened for public access, the Boating is sure to invigorate your senses and test the lake waters. The boating fee is capped at Rs. 200/- per head, with life jackets provided to each of the boaters. The boats themselves come in various shapes and sizes which can accommodate the love bird couples as well as the big sized families. 45 minutes of the ride should do enough to provide you a nerve soothing experience as well as fitting exercise to the legs.

As you pedal amongst the swooping ducks and other migratory birds feeding in the lakes waters, the cool breeze skimming across the lake provides a sense of virtuous peace away from the jostling and intense urban life. As you relish the experience, a tall tower, seemingly out of place, piques your interest. What is it doing in this in the middle of this charming place? What is it built for?

For all the adrenaline junkies, the tall tower facilitates Bungy Jumping. Built at a dizzying height at 55 mtrs, the dare devils can seek thrills as the dive is directly into the lakes waters. Surely, the view from the top would accentuate the magnificent surrounding. The Bungy jumping is capped at a price of Rs. 4,850/- per head.

There is also kids’ playing area within the premise, where the kids can enjoy a whirl winding day playing on different rides. There are even plenty of cubicles where a family can enjoy a day long picnic. For the nature lovers, the park also offers a lovely walk through its flower bedded plants and swaying trees.

A trip to the Mayem Lake beckons the young and old alike and should sure be on your list of must visits.
